A New Perspective Chapter 8 Paw Patrol's Origin

Charles looked at the phone in shock. Once able to speak again he said in disbelief. “T...That's impossible...her brother is dead.” “Oh I assure you I'm very much alive.” Relic said in a serious tone. Both of them were silent for a moment and then Charles broke the silence. “Okay, if you are who you say....Then why...why didn't you show yourself!?” Charles said with anger in his voice clearly triggering a nerve. “Do you have any idea how much pain you put her through!? Relic sighed and said. “I have my reasons...when she started these dangerous rescues...I knew it was only a matter of time until she got herself killed...I wanted no part in it..” Charles growled into the phone. “How could you freaking say such a thing...s..she was you sister!?” Relic said in a pained voice. “I know that...I..I was going to make a mends...but before I could..I..I heard she was killed..and it was to late...I know I can never make up for it...but..I want to save Ryder...it's the least I could do...and you know you have no other options...” Charles was silent for a good min..but finally said. “As much as I'd want to punch your dang lights out...you have a point...meet me at my house in Adventure Bay.” “Okay, I'll be their in a few hours.” Charles slammed the phone on the receiver and picked up his Pup Pad, and called Ryder.

Meanwhile the pups were playing in the yard and Ryder and Katie were watching them. “Why don't you join them?” Katie said petting his head. Ryder shook his head and said. “Nah, I am fine watching them...I'm still their owner after all...plus I don't want to get to used to this...after all..once I'm back I've gotta work harder..so this doesn't happen again.” Katie sighed and said. “Ryder, you don't have to put everything on you own shoulders...we're each doing what we can to help you...” Ryder sighed and said. “I have to...when I started this team...I made a vow...that I wouldn't have others deal with my problems...” Katie looked at him. “Ryder...why do you want to change back so badly?” Ryder looked her with a questioning look and said. “Because I..can't do anything on my own in this form...I...I don't want the pups to be put anymore risk then they already are...they each have their own jobs and excel in them...but...I..I can't go through that again...I can't take anymore deaths on my hands...” Katie hugged him knowing what he meant. “That won't happen...she knew the risk...she was important to me too..and I miss her almost as much as you do...you're so much like her....” she said as a tear ran down her eye. Just then his pup tag went off. “Ryder...can you meet me at my house in an hour.” Charles said through it. “Sure dad, what's up?” Ryder replied. “I...think I just heard from someone who might know how to fix this...he says he's a decedent.” Ryder's eyes got huge and said with a voice full of excitement. “Really!? H..He might know how to change me back!?” “Yeah, but...well...you might not like him...he's...honestly someone I thought was dead...and honestly wish he was.” Ryder was shocked by his dad's reply, it was unusual for him to hate anyone. “Why, did he do something?” Ryder asked curiously. “You..could say that..I..I'll explain later...I need to lay down.” Charles said in a stressed voice. Ryder looked at Katie worried. “Okay dad, I'll see you later.” he said as he hung up. Just then Skye called up to them. “Hey Ryder Katie, come down and play with us!” “Yeah, we have this great new ball!” Chase said. Ryder smiled and said. “Okay guys!” He turned to Katie. “Come on, lets just enjoy the time we have until we have to go.” Katie nodded.

They each went up to the pups and Ryder picked up the ball. “Okay, who wants it?” Ryder asked picking it up with his paw, but it fell out of his grasp. “Uh, one sec... “Ryder said with a bit of embarrassment in his voice. He picked it up again...but it fell. Rocky couldn't help but let out a chuckle and said. “Hey Ryder, how about you use your claw arm? Ryder smiled and said. “Good idea Rocky!”
Ryder barked and used his claw arm to pick up the ball and threw it causing the others to chase after it. Ryder chuckled and said. “Nice job guys!.” Katie looked at him and said. “think we should get going?” Ryder nodded and said. “Yeah, we better.” Ryder turned to his friends and said. “Guys we need to get going!” Marshall who was in front stopped causing the rest to crash into a pile. “Where to sir?” Chase asked curiously. Ryder smiled and said. “My dad just called, he said someone called him who knows how to change me back.” “WHAT!?” Each of the pups said dumbfounded. Skye was the first to speak and broke the silence. “Wow Ryder, that's wonderful!!!” “I know it is!” Ryder said happily. Katie just looked at him questioningly...she could tell Ryder was hiding the fact that he secretly didn't want to change back.

With that they each headed over to Ryder's dad's house and knocked on the door. Shortly later Charles answered it. “Hey Dad!” Ryder said in a friendly voice. Charles seemed to be mad about something but replied with. “Hey Ryder, glad you could come...” Ryder obviously noticed this. “Man, you're pretty upset...what could he have done?” Charles turned and said. “...It'd just be better for you to hear it from the horse's mouth.” Chase looked at Ryder worriedly.
“Ryder sir, is he okay?” Ryder sighed and said. “My dad said the guy who can change me back did something...bad..but I don't have any idea why.” They made their way to the living room and found an older man sitting on the couch. Ryder looked at his dad and asked. “Who is that dad?” Charles glared at Relic and said. “That is him...you're...uncle Relic.” Relic looked at Ryder and said. “Pleased to meet you Ryder.” Ryder was stunned. “T...That's impossible...y..you're supposed to be dead!” Relic looked at him and said. “Well that's because-” He was cut off by Charles glaring at him. Charles said with a voice of hate. “I'll explain for you so you won't make anymore lies...I don't trust you with anything.” Each of the gang felt the tension thick as peanut butter. Charles sighed and said. “Fine, if it will get you to stop with the glaring.” Charles looked at Ryder and said. “He faked his death...because he didn't want anything to do with your mom...because he felt she'd kill herself...” A look of shock and horror came on his face. Katie covered her mouth in shock and said. “I..Is that true!?” Relic sighed again and said. “Yes...I knew she would have gotten herself killed...and I wanted no part of it...” This caused Ryder to just snap. “Grrr, you....you just let her die!!!!” Ryder said with more hate then any of his friends ever saw. Katie said in disbelief. “Oh Ryder...” Ryder looked away. “Dad...you were right about me hating him...get him out of my sight!” Ryder said as glared daggers at him. Charles looked at Ryder. “Ryder...I know it's hard...but please he knows how to change you back.” Ryder was silent for a moment but finally said. “I...need time to think...” he then walked out of the room. Each of his friends were in shock. “W...whoa...I..I've never seen Ryder that angry.” Chase said breaking the silence. Fang looked where he walked out. “He sure seemed touchy about it...then again after faking a death...it's pretty easy to see why.” Relic sighed “I knew he'd be mad...so I'm not that surprised.” Charles glared at him. “You deserved every bit of it!” Katie walked to Charles and said. “Uh...w..what exactly happened?” each of them looked at her. Charles looked at a photo of him ryder...and his mom. “I guess I'll tell the story...but...it's not happy..” Each of them gathered round and Charles began the tale.

Charles looked at the ceiling and said. “You see..me and my wife Meg...we were what the Paw Patrol was based on. We didn't have much money in the town in those days...so we couldn't afford a fancy police station or fire department...in a way we acted as the protectors of Adventure Bay.” Chase interrupted him “W...wait..you guys did all of it yourselves?” Charles nodded and said. “Yeah..we did what we could to help and it went very well...but then...that...terrible day came...” He said as a tear ran down his eye. Katie looked at him and said sadly. “Her death...” This stunned each of the pups minus Chase who already knew. “W...wait...R..Ryder's mom is...” Skye said flabbergasted. Charles nodded sadly, he looked out the window and said. “I remember like it was yesterday. There was a rock-slide and we were using our tools to get the rocks moved off the road...and we seemed to have gotten the last one off...when a big one started rolling down the cliff..and it was heading for Mr. Porter and his daughter...she pushed them out of the way in time...but it landed on her...and...killed her...” “Oh man...” Rocky said sadly. Relic looked at them. “I knew it would happen with their lines of work...she was a fool...that's why I cut ties with her.” Charles glared at him and said. “You are just awful you know that!?” Relic was silent for a min and then replied with. “Yeah, I wanted to apologize a week later...but then I heard she died...” Charles retorted with “Oh isn't that to dang bad...if you were there you could have helped and maybe she'd still be alive!!!” Zuma then said. “Ouch...” Relic looked away. “I know...that's why...I'm trying to help Ryder...to...try and at least try to make a mends...I know it will never be enough...but it's the best I can do...” Fang then said. “Ha, what a load...you think you can make up for his mom's death by that!? It's no wonder he doesn't want anything to do with you...if I was him...I'd rather be a pup forever then get help from you after what you've done!!” Skye was shocked at this and said. “Fang, easy...I honestly feel the same...but..he's at least trying!” Rocky chimed in and said. “Same here.” Ryder then came in and said. “Okay...I'll accept your help.” Chase noticed he walked in and said. “R..Ryder sir, are..are you sure?” Ryder nodded and said. “The team needs me to lead them...I can't do my job like this...and you guys need someone to take care of you...and if that means working with HIM...I'll make that sacrifice.” Relic smiled and said. “Thank you Ryder...” Ryder glared at him and said coldly. “But...let me make one thing clear...I'll never forgive you...” Relic nodded said. “Okay...then lets get to work.”
